As the West is fast changing, Barnaby Skye, an aging frontiersman, seeks a more permanent home in the Yellowstone River valley; his younger Shoshone wife, Mary, feels drawn to seek their estranged son, North Star; while North Star the half-breed son, is compelled to find who he really is and finally, Victoria, the older Indian wife, like Barnaby Skye is feeling her age as well. Story seemed slow at first but as each character sets out on his or her separate path, one is intrigued to follow. The author gives some good details of the areas of travel.
